Turmeric is a pretty magical root. It helps in maintaining a healthy heart, helps to detoxify the body and can aid in reducing depression and stress. This root also can relieve menstrual pain and offer relief from cramps, fatigue and nausea. Magical, I tell you!
It may be the changing of seasons (yes, there are seasons in Los Angeles, although sometimes they get confused…) but I’ve been craving warm and warming drinks like crazy, especially before bed. Golden Milk is definitely one of those drinks. It tastes amazing, warms the entire body and really does relieve any discomfort I’ve had from the day, leaving my body relaxed and ready to sleep.
I use powder versions of the ingredients because I want to make it in under 5 minutes, but you could get fresh roots and blend and strain too!
- Makes: 3 servings of Golden Milk (I store the extra in the fridge for the next day!)
- Prep time: 2
- Cook time: 5 minutes
- Cost: ~ $3 total
- 2 cups unsweetened coconut milk
- 2 cups water
- 4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- dash cayenne pepper (more if you like spicy!)
- 3 Tbs sweetener (I use local raw honey, but maple syrup would also be delicious!)
Add your milk and water to a saucepan and heat gently on medium. Add the spices and stir consistently. Add sweetener as it gets warm and make sure everything is combined beautifully before you take it off the heat. Serve hot and get golden!
